Bill of Rights Day

December 15 is the 225th anniversary of the Bill of Rights.
At the US National Archives website, Jessie Kratz, Historian of the National Archives, looks back at the history of the day.
At the Cato Institute website, Tim Lynch, the director of Cato’s project on criminal justice, considers the state of our constitutional safeguards for each of the ten amendments.
So how well are our nation’s K-12 schools and colleges doing in educating students for citizenship? Not so well. In a recent survey of constitutional knowledge by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, one-third of college graduates and 46 percent of the population could not characterize correctly the Bill of Rights.
