The goal of this book is modest—to assist businesspersons in learning the basics of business law. We cannot (and do not attempt) to set out all of the law in this short book. Law students do not even attempt to learn the entire body of American law in numerous courses during three years of law school; and lawyers certainly do not know it all—despite what some of them may think! To keep the book short and manageable, we necessarily have had to pare down topics, combine topics, ignore some topics altogether, and simplify the material. Accordingly, we will not engage in extensive case law analysis or review excerpted cases, such as those found in other business law books (many of which are multiple times longer than this book). We will be much more efficient in setting out the material. Therefore, this book includes “just the basics.”
